bubble theatre, london

The Bubble Theatre has as its base, offices and rehearsal facilities in Rotherhithe, London. The company puts on plays in various locations around London, sometimes in parks and other open spaces.

Their headquarters is split between two buildings, separated by a small courtyard. Saville Jones was employed to link the two buildings together and also to adapt the facilities to make them fully accessible. The scheme included the installation of a new lift in one of the buildings, creating new accessible toilets and linking the two buildings at first floor level by a glazed bridge with bubble depictions on the glass, thereby allowing the use of the courtyard by vehicles to continue. The scheme also included adding thermal insulation to the roofs, new energy efficient boilers and a general refurbishment.

The project was completed in May 2013 and was opened by local MP Simon Hughes.
