park view community hub, thamesmead

Client: Trust Thamesmead

Trust Thamesmead commissioned Saville Jones to undertake a feasibility study for a community hub in the heart of a residential area of Thamesmead.

The study looked at the needs of the Park View estate, and especially the Kale Road area, which included dilapidated workshops, community centre, residential units and high-level pedestrian walkways.

Following public consultation and workshops, proposals were drawn up for two options including new build and the adaptation of existing structures.

Facilities included the creation of a community hub comprising shops, café/bar, community police office, crèche, workshops, library and social facilities. These would be complemented by improved open space and public realm, including the demolition of pedestrian bridges over the highway.
