Highbeach House, Tamarisk Way, East Preston

The property is located on the south side of Tamarisk Way, an exclusively residential street within the East Preston Willowhayne Estate, running east west and parallel to the coast.

The property is delineated by Tamarisk Way to the north; adjacent detached properties to the east and west and the greensward to the south. The property was constructed in circa 1992 in a Tudorbethan style with fair face brick elevations, clay tile roof and timber gable details.

Saville Jones’ brief included the removal of an existing conservatory to the rear of the property that had changes in floor level and replace with a new larger contemporary orangery with level access.

The new orangery has been designed in better proportion to the existing house and to enhance the character of the property, with a natural zinc roof covering with central glazed portion with sliding glazed doors to lead out into the garden.

A new two storey extension has been created on the rear south elevation to maximise sea views from the ground, first and second floors.

The ground floor arrangement has been reconfigured to provide an open plan property with high quality fittings and finishes carefully selected to convey a relaxed coastal home.

The house has been fully refurbishment including new bathrooms and kitchen; new heating and plumbing systems; upgrading of the existing building fabric to improve on thermal performance and provide better overall energy efficiency.

The rear garden has been landscaped with a large decked terrace leading on to central grassed lawn, a new pergola for outdoor entertaining; contemporary glasshouse and new planting beds with drought tolerant and low maintenance planting suitable for coastal environments.
